Western Diocese of ROCOR Publishes Schedule of Events to Honor St. John of San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO — The Western American Diocese of ROCOR has published a schedule of events to mark the Feast of St. John of San Francisco.
All events will take place at Holy Virgin Cathedral (6210 Geary Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94121).
- Thursday, July 3rd at 7 PM: Translation of the honorable relics and Akathist Hymn to Saint John
- Friday, July 4th at 6 PM: The Greeting of His Eminence Kyrill Archbishop of San Francisco and Western America, and All-night Vigil
- Saturday, July 5th at 9 AM: The Greeting of the Bishop and Divine Liturgy. A festal meal provided by the local Sisterhood will follow.
St. John was ordained a bishop in 1934 by Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky), ROCOR’s first hierarch. He served as Archbishop of China and Archbishop of Western Europe before he was assigned to the Western American Diocese. While there, he completed the Holy Virgin Cathedral. He was canonized by ROCOR in 1994.
ROCOR observes his feast on the Saturday closest to July 2.
