Antiochian Hierarchs Hold Memorial Service, Mark 40 Days Since Damascus Church Massacre

DAMASCUS — With the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, a Hierarchal Divine Liturgy was celebrated at Prophet Elias Church in the Dweilaa district of Damascus on July 26 to mark 40 days since the deadly attack that claimed the lives of numerous worshipers.
The Liturgy was presided over by Metropolitan Nicolas Baalbaki of Hama, joined by Bishops Romanos al-Hannat, Patriarchal Vicar, and Patriarchal Assistants Moussa al-Khoury, Arsenius Dahdal, and Moussa al-Khasi. Clergy from across the region concelebrated the service, which was attended by the families of the victims, parishioners, and a large crowd of faithful.
The commemoration honored those martyred in the attack, with prayers offered for the repose of their souls, for the healing of the injured, and for the consolation of all who mourn. Following the Divine Liturgy, a Trisagion Service was held in memory of the departed.

Metropolitan Nicolas delivered the condolences and love of Patriarch John X, reaffirming the Church’s prayers for peace in Syria and throughout the world.
