Romanians in Dublin Seek to Purchase Anglican Church
DUBLIN — The Romanian Orthodox community in Ireland’s capital city is urgently raising funds to purchase an 19th-century Anglican church.
Built in the 1860s as the Molyneux Chapel for the Asylum for the Female Blind, it was renamed Christ Church Leeson Park in 1874 and became a parish in 1892.
After closing in 2007 due to declining membership, it hosted weekly Anglican services. It also served as a spiritual home for the Romanian Orthodox community under a license agreement.
On March 11, 2025, Christ Church Leeson Park in Ireland’s capital city was deconsecrated by the Anglican Church.
The final Anglican Evening Prayer, led by Archbishop Michael Jackson, celebrated 150 years of worship. The Anglican Church supported the purchase, hoping to carry on the church’s spiritual legacy forward.
On December 4, 2024, Fr. Călin Florea announced that the community launched a GoFundMe campaign.
Those wishing to support the Romanian Orthodox community may visit the parish's GoFundMe or send donations to:
