THESSALONIKI — On Sept. 29, 2025, a meeting between Pat. Daniel of Bulgaria and Pat. Bartholomew of Constantinople took place in Thessaloniki. During the conversation, the centuries-old spiritual ties between the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Orthodox Bulgarian people were discussed, the Bulgarian Patriarchate announced.

The two First Hierarchs emphasized the extremely good relations between the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Patriarchate of Constantinople, as well as discussed other issues of an inter-Orthodox nature. They united around the great importance of theological education in the modern era.

Pat. Daniel expressed his hope that the Halki Theological School, which has been closed for 54 years, will be reopened. The meeting lasted more than an hour and passed in a spirit of brotherly love and cordiality. At the end of it, the two patriarchs exchanged symbolic gifts.

At the invitation of His Beatitude Abp. Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece, Pat. Daniel participated in the Second International Scientific Conference dedicated to the centenary of the journal "Theology." At the forum, he delivered a report on modern technologies, artificial intelligence and their impact on human life.

Previously, UOJ reported that the second annual "International Scientific Congress" had opened in Greece, with several primates and hierarchs in attendance.
