OCT. 24, 2025 — Exclusive information that was published earlier by UOJ's Greek branch regarding the hospitalization of Met. Tychikos of Paphos has now been confirmed.
Shortly after the report, a video was uploaded to YouTube showing His Eminence inside a hospital room, accompanied by Fr. Evangelos Papanikolaou.
Fr. Evangelos revealed that Met. Tychikos had been ill for several days and that doctors had advised him not to travel to the Patriarchate due to his health condition. Nevertheless, the Metropolitan traveled to the Phanar, where his condition worsened as a result of fatigue and physical strain.
Upon arriving in Athens, he began to experience discomfort, and on Wednesday, Oct. 22, he was admitted to the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center. He has since been transferred to another hospital in Athens for further examinations.
According to Fr. Evangelos, the Metropolitan experienced chest pain that radiated across his face.
The Message of Metropolitan Tychikos
From his hospital bed, His Eminence shared a few words:
“Glory be to God! Glory be to God! I thank you, too, Fr. Evangelos, for being with me — both on the journey (to the Ecumenical Patriarchate) and here. I ask for everyone’s prayers, just as I pray for Paphos, which I love so much, for all of Cyprus, and for every Christian. Pray that this trial may pass, and that better days may come for our Church. Glory be to God!”
Previously, UOJ reported that, in a decision announced on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, the Holy Synod of Constantinople chose to uphold the May decision of the Holy Synod of Cyprus to depose Met. Tychikos of Paphos.
