UOC Priest and Matushka Killed in Shelling of Ukrainian Village

ILLINIVKA — In the village of Aleksandro-Kalynove in the Donetsk region, the rector of the Church of the Royal Martyrs, Archpriest Volodymyr Shutov, was killed together with his wife Svitlana as a result of Russian shelling, UOJ-Ukraine reported, with reference to the Pokrovsk Vicariate’s Telegram channel.

"According to unconfirmed information, Archpriest Volodymyr Shutov and his wife Svitlana were killed as a result of enemy shelling of the village of Oleksandro-Kalynove in the Donetsk region," the release stated.

Additional details of the tragedy have not been disclosed.

The church in the village was built through the efforts of Fr. Volodymyr and the parish community in 2018. It is a large structure: 30 meters tall, with an area of 500 square meters.

Before the war, the village belonged to the Horlivka and Sloviansk Diocese.

Previously, UOJ reported that a matushka was killed in a Russian shelling of a UOC church.
