ROCOR Synod Establishes Commission to Investigate the Life of Fr. Seraphim Rose
NEW YORK — The Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) has established a special commission to examine the life, spiritual legacy, and widespread veneration of Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose), the influential American convert and co-founder of St. Herman of Alaska Monastery.
The commission is headed by Bishop James of Sonora, vicar of the Western American Diocese, who personally knew Fr. Seraphim and has long admired his writings.
Its formation marks the next step towards Fr. Seraphim’s canonization.
Fr. Seraphim, who reposed in 1982, is revered by many Orthodox faithful worldwide for his asceticism, theological writings, missionary zeal, spiritual fatherhood, and defense of traditional Orthodoxy.
Rose's veneration continues to grow, with calls for glorification from hierarchs across jurisdictions.
Earlier this month, the UOJ reported on the canonization of St. Arsenie Boca.
