Patriarch Porfirije: War between our brothers is dangerous for entire world

The war between our Russian and Ukrainian brothers brings suffering to these peoples but also threatens to divide the whole world, and especially the regions of the former Yugoslavia, which are not yet sufficiently reconciled, said the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Porfirije, in his sermon in Belgrade.

He said that now that a new war has broken out in Europe, many still have memories of the tragic wars and conflicts in the former Yugoslavia. “This war causes suffering and division, but not only now between our Russian and Ukrainian brothers, it threatens with suffering and division both the whole world and Europe, where we feel a tragedy is coming,” said the Serbian Patriarch.

He called for sympathy and help for the refugees arriving in Serbia. “For the sake of Christ God, we are obliged to testify to true love, evangelical and Christian love, and not only by receiving in our homes those people who come as refugees, but by placing them in our hearts, in our love,” said Patriarch Porfirije.

The Primate of the Serbian Church urged to pray for the earliest peace negotiations instead of war, “because peace has no price”. He also spoke about the collection of donations for the victims of hostilities, which will be given to the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

As reported, the Serbian Church will help the UOC and Metropolitan Onuphry.
