Insult to Ukraine: U.S. comments on the shelling of Sviatogorsk Lavra
The strike of the Russian Federation on the Orthodox monastery in Sviatogorsk is an insult to the people of Ukraine, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said at a briefing. This was reported on Liga.net.
The US Embassy in Kyiv noted that Russia had targeted a historic Orthodox monument in the Donetsk region, a Ukrainian shrine that has served as a safe haven for civilians since the outbreak of a brutal war. These attacks were pointless – a pointless insult to the people of Ukraine, including the government of Ukraine, Price said.
Recall that during the battles for the Sviatogorsk Lavra, the shrine came under fire more than once, churches and sketes were damaged and destroyed, several people were injured, four monks died.
As the UOJ wrote, the Lavra's Skete of All Saints of the Rus Land completely burned down due to shelling.
