Provocation by OCU failed: Pereyaslav church community remains loyal to UOC
On June 22, 2022, supporters of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Pereyaslav, Kyiv region, together with representatives of the city authorities organized a meeting of the territorial community in order to transfer the Holy Trinity Church from the UOC to the OCU, but parishioners did not give in to the provocation and held their meeting, reaffirming their faithfulness to the UOC, reports the UOC Department for Information and Education.
The meeting of the territorial community took place in the City House of Culture and was organized by the official portal of the Pereyaslav City Council. About 80 people came to the event and voted for the transfer of the UOC Trinity Church to the OCU.
The true believers of the Trinity parish held their meeting and voted in accordance with their statute. As many as 160 parishioners unanimously voted to retain the existing status of the community and against the transfer to the schismatics. The results of the vote were recorded in the minutes. Afterwards, an akathist was read in the Trinity Church, and the rector of the church, the Dean of the first Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi district Archimandrite Nil (Semenets), thanked everyone for their support.
"There is information that the next day the supporters of the OCU are planning to stage another provocation – in the local Assumption Church," reports the website of the UOC Information and Education Department.
On 20 May 2022, the Pereyaslav City Council banned the UOC from operating in the city.
