Zelenskyy reacts to petition on pornography legalization
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to look into the possibility of legalizing porn and erotica in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy wrote this in response to a petition posted on the website of the head of state, which received 25,000 votes.
"I turned Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal with a request to process the issue raised in the electronic petition according to his competence and to inform the author of the petition about the results of its consideration," Zelenskyy said.
Zelensky said that the Cabinet of Ministers ensures the implementation of state policy in the field of protection of public morals and trafficking in sexual goods.
The petition to legalize porn in Ukraine was filed on 4 July 2022. The petition received 25,589 votes out of the required 25,000 before being considered by the President.
The author of the initiative, Taras Siromskyy, believes that banning the production of pornography has no positive sides and only increases the burden on law enforcement agencies and promotes corruption.
As previously reported, a petition to abolish the Istanbul Convention received 25,000 votes.
