Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan elected as First Hierarch of ROCOR
On Tuesday, September 13, at the Cathedral of the Sign in New York, the Council of Bishops elected Bishop Nicholas (Olhovsky) of Manhattan as First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, reports the official website of the ROCOR.
In accordance with the Act of Canonical Communion, signed on May 17, 2007, the Council of Bishops will send an act of election to Patriarch Kirill, with a petition from the appointed First Hierarch for a blessing on the acceptance of the positions assigned to him by fellow archpastors, and for the approval of his election by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The enthronement of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, the newly elected First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, will take place on September 18, 2022.
As reported, on May 17, the head of the ROCOR, Metropolitan Hilarion, reposed in the Lord.
