Ukrainian diplomat names ECG "servants of Judas" for their calls for peace
Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andrij Melnyk called the Evangelical Church of Germany “servants of Judas” for their calling for peace talks in Ukraine.
On his Twitter page, in response to the call by the chairperson of the Council of the Evangelical Church of Germany to find ways to de-escalate the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian politician wrote that "a ceasefire will consolidate the brutal Russian occupation" and "millions of Ukrainians will be at the mercy of Putin's murderous regime."
“Do you want this, 'peacekeepers'? <...> From which tree did you fall in the evangelical church?" Melnyk remarked.
He also wrote that "we will never forgive you servants of Judas for your flirting with the war criminal Putin" and "your hypocritical betrayal of the Ukrainian people."
The Evangelical Church of Germany is an association of Evangelical (Lutheran) state churches of Germany. Evangelicals are one of the two largest religious denominations in Germany (along with Catholics).
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the chairperson of the Council of the Evangelical Church of Germany stated the need to start negotiations on a truce in Ukraine.
