**ATHENS —** Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew said during a [recent visit](https://basilica.ro/en/ecumenical-patriarch-to-journalists-good-is-news/) to the headquarters of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation that “good itself is the news,” challenging the common journalistic belief that positive developments are not inherently newsworthy.

The Ecumenical Patriarch visited the broadcaster as it marked the 60th anniversary of the first television broadcast in the Greek language. Reflecting on the role of media in society, he stated, “For us, however, the Good is the news, and the Good News stands at the center of the Christian’s life.” He emphasized the importance of truth, objectivity, and respect for citizens in journalism.

He referred to many in the profession as “unseen heroes” whose daily labor helps provide complete and meaningful public information and cultural enrichment.
