# Abp. Apostolos Makes First Pastoral Visit to Toronto Cathedral

**TORONTO, ON —** Abp. Apostolos of Canada made his [first pastoral visit](https://www.facebook.com/gometropolis/posts/pfbid02ihyRMe5kmmtbJ6Je3JaXWGrB46RZXcuoZW72G9C9NryefMNyA3JnJD5qLUMH2Rd7l) following his enthronement to the historic Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto on Sept. 27, presiding over the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy before a congregation that included many young families and children.

Reflecting on the day’s Gospel reading about the miraculous catch of fish and the calling of the first disciples, Abp. Apostolos emphasized that Christ remains at the center of Orthodox Christian life and is the Head of the Church. Addressing the growing presence of technology, he also spoke about artificial intelligence and its limits. “AI can tell us about Christ, but it cannot give us Christ,” he said. “AI can tell us what Baptism is, but the priest will baptize us.”

The Archbishop expressed particular joy at seeing children and young families filling the Cathedral, thanking parents for the sacrifices involved in bringing their children to church. “Without babies, there is no future,” he said, encouraging families to strengthen the Church’s life through their children, Greek schools, and Sunday Schools.

Abp. Apostolos also spoke warmly about the Theotokos, to whom the Cathedral is dedicated. “The Panagia is not only my Mother, but the Mother of the whole world,” he said, recalling that he was ordained at an Annunciation Cathedral in Rhodes and became a monk at a monastery dedicated to the Theotokos.

The Cathedral community, which is celebrating 65 years of ministry, presented the Archbishop with a handmade welcome from its Sunday School children and an epigonation depicting St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle. Abp. Apostolos called the children’s welcome “the most beautiful welcoming” he had received since arriving in Canada. He also invited the faithful to return Oct. 1 for the ordination of seminarian Christos Bourolias to the diaconate, which will be his first ordination as Archbishop of Canada.
