**KYIV —** Approximately 100 people gathered on November 2 outside a National Guard facility in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, near Kyiv, after relatives alleged that mobilized men were being [held and beaten](https://spzh.eu/en/zashhita-very/96890-there-are-many-buildings-like-this-what-borshchahivka-means-for-uoc.html?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com) inside a private house. The facility, operated by Military Unit 3121 of the National Guard’s 1st Azov Corps, was described by officials as a temporary accommodation site for mobilized personnel and servicemen who had gone absent without leave (AWOL).

Accounts differed over how many men were inside. National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko said 18 people were being held, while Presidential Office Chief Kyrylo Budanov gave a figure of 14\. Four of the men, who were injured, were transferred to a military medical center. The Azov Corps described the allegations of torture as unverified and said those responsible would be punished if an investigation established that violence had occurred.

Protesters clashed with police after breaking through the facility’s gates. Later that evening, masked men arrived and assaulted demonstrators and journalists. A [teenage boy](https://www.facebook.com/reel/3300777796977859) who had entered the property by climbing over a fence said he was beaten by several masked individuals and later received hospital treatment for cuts, bruises, and rib pain.

Evidence cited by those alleging torture included a video sent by a detainee to his relatives in which he complained of severe abdominal pain, fever, and chills, while his face appeared to show signs of a beating. Relatives also said that a private ambulance they had called was initially denied entry to the property by security guards. A medical worker who eventually entered the building estimated that 25–30 men were inside and reported that four were in serious condition; officials later acknowledged that four injured men had been transferred to a military medical center.

Witnesses also pointed to bruises on detainees, although Ihor Savchuk disputed their significance, claiming that one man’s bruising resulted from a traffic accident and that stains described as blood were discharge from another man’s intestinal stoma.

On November 3, UGCC hieromonk Yustyn Boyko shared a post by Ihor Savchuk describing the protest as an operation benefiting Russia, adding the words “[Moscow provocateurs](https://spzh.eu/en/news/96864-ugcc-cleric-calls-protest-at-alleged-detention-site-moscow-provocation.html?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com).” Savchuk claimed that the reported signs of bloodshed were misidentified and that some injuries had other explanations. Commenters disputed his account, pointing to the injured men and the four who required medical attention.

This is a developing story, and UOJ will provide updates as they become available.
