**LA VERNE, CA —** The Antiochian House of Studies (AHOS) [has announced plans](https://ahos.edu/master-of-eastern-orthodox-canon-law/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAcGRvZgFicmlkETE0VTBHb2ZoSTF1SWNlN2xtc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHhmAlMF3TmFWc3EccNbD0bfNgKAodaBhZyA8fk5kkseIckG%5Fkk4WYKeATYpD%5Faem%5FqvOCVJ8FD7Ym6GwE7dNXcQ) for a new Master of Eastern Orthodox Canon Law, a fully online graduate degree intended to provide clergy, lay leaders, educators, researchers, and others with advanced academic formation in the canonical tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Church.

The 51-credit program will span six semesters and consist of 39 core credits, six elective credits, and a six-credit master’s thesis. Students will study the theological and historical foundations of canon law, Church governance, marriage and family, clergy and monasticism, the Holy Mysteries, ecclesiastical courts and discipline, Church-State relations, and contemporary canonical questions.

A distinctive component of the program will be the study of Canonical Greek. Students will develop the ability to work directly with primary canonical texts from the early, Byzantine, and modern periods, while also receiving training in research methodology and original scholarly work. The program will culminate in a supervised thesis.

AHOS says the degree is being developed within its existing academic and accreditation framework and is designed to serve students throughout the United States, Canada, and beyond. Coursework will be delivered entirely online through faculty-guided instruction, scholarly reading, discussion, research, writing, and individualized feedback.

Graduates are expected to be prepared for teaching, research, publishing, translation, diocesan and parish support, Church administration, educational ministry, and further graduate study. The Antiochian House of Studies anticipates launching the program in fall 2027, with application procedures and prerequisite requirements to be announced.
