# Foundation Stone Laid for New Chapel at Panagia Prousiotissa Monastery

**TROY, NC —** A new chapel dedicated to the Evrytanian Saints [will be built](https://www.facebook.com/stnektarioscharlotte/posts/pfbid02WfgQnfYtDjLHcRSBf3kb2Q3hD3sDf2LL5UvHq1zBJsVuTnmgw7EE7qySEmBU1oCzl) at Panagia Prousiotissa Greek Orthodox Monastery in Troy, North Carolina, following the laying of its foundation stone during the monastery’s patronal feast on September 13.

Metr. Sevastianos of Atlanta presided at the celebration, joining Fr. Paul Tsahakis and visiting Hieromonks Polykarpos and Nektarios around the Lord’s Table. Fr. Andreas and Fr. Minas Tsambounieris of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem also participated in the celebration.

The chapel project was marked as part of the monastery’s annual feast, with the visiting clergy participating in the Divine Liturgy and the subsequent sanctification service. Nuns visiting from St. Paraskevi Monastery in Texas assisted with chanting during the services, joining the faithful gathered at the monastery.

St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte described the occasion as a day marked by the love of Christ and devotion to the Theotokos. The parish also offered prayers for Abbess Agne and the sisterhood as they continue their work at the monastery.

The new chapel will be dedicated to the saints of Evrytania, the Greek region associated with the original wonderworking Panagia Prousiotissa icon. The monastery itself is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and her miraculous icon, a copy of which was brought to Troy when the monastery was established.

Panagia Prousiotissa Monastery was founded in 1998 through the efforts of Elder Ephraim of Philotheou, with the blessing of Metr. Alexios of Atlanta. Its sisterhood originated at the Archangel Michael Monastery on the Greek island of Thasos, which was also under Elder Ephraim’s spiritual guidance.

The monastery has developed its property through gardens, trees, wooded areas, meadows, and other landscaping while maintaining its life of prayer and hospitality. The chapel project adds another place of worship to the growing monastic community, with the faithful encouraged to support the ongoing construction.
