**JORDAN VALLEY —** The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem has [reaffirmed its commitment](https://orthodoxtimes.com/the-jerusalem-patriarchate-continues-to-reform-the-affairs-of-st-gerasimos-monastery/) to protecting its ecclesiastical properties throughout the Holy Land, including the Holy Monastery of St. Gerasimos (Deir Hajla) in the Jordan Valley, amid what it described as ongoing attempts to challenge and interfere with church properties and endowments.

According to the Patriarchate, the monastery was founded in 455 AD, while its late abbot, Archimandrite Chrysostomos, served the Church for more than 55 years. Following his death, the Patriarchate began administrative and financial procedures intended to reorganize and normalize the monastery’s operations.

The Patriarchate also stated that certain parties have circulated what it described as fabricated rumors on social media in an effort to pressure church authorities to halt the reforms. It emphasized that the administration of monastic affairs, including transfers and the implementation of administrative and financial controls, falls under the Patriarchate’s jurisdiction.

The Patriarchate further confirmed that [monks who left](https://www.orthodoxianewsagency.gr/patriarxeia/patriarxio%5Fierosolimon/patriarxeio-ierosolymon-tha-prostateysoume-tin-ekklisiastiki-periousia-stin-agia-gi/) St. Gerasimos Monastery did so voluntarily and at their own request. It called on members of the community to support the ongoing reforms so that the monastery can continue its spiritual mission and service to society.

Previously, the [UOJ reported](https://uoj.news/news/patr-daniel-concludes-historic-visit-to-jerusalem-patriarchate/) that Patr. Daniel concluded a historic visit to the Jerusalem Patriarchate.
