**KITCHENER, ONTARIO —** St. Peter and St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Kitchener [has elected to continue](https://orthodoxobserver.org/byzantine-iconography-begins-at-an-ontario-orthodox-church/?fbclid=IwY2xjawVaC%5FBleHRuA2FlbQIxMABwZG9mAWJyaWQRMWFBSHVvY1lFVEJyRk5yaE9zcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEfoglUh4kKyOuwbN1ZyXwkqwyHos2vPszY%5FFT0IX8phDxGhSrRBiL3ws0kQc4%5Faem%5FojMkZyrUndZfL0osKCDxAg) an extensive Byzantine iconography project, bringing a long-standing vision of the parish community closer to completion.

The parish commissioned Canadian iconographer and fine artist Zoran Rnjak, whose experience in traditional Byzantine iconography spans nearly three decades. The first phase centered on the church’s central dome, which rises approximately 21 meters above the floor and measures 9.5 meters in diameter.

The completed dome features a monumental depiction of Christ Pantokrator surrounded by angels, along with images of the Mother of God, St. John the Baptist, prophets, and the Evangelists. The project required [months of preparation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcZ9LAHxQ8A), with many of the large compositions painted on canvas in Rnjak’s studio before installation.

The parish is now extending the iconographic program toward the altar. Planned compositions include the Nativity, Resurrection, Transfiguration, Descent of the Holy Spirit, and Ascension, as well as additional depictions of saints.

The undertaking reflects the continued development of traditional Byzantine sacred art in North American Orthodox churches. Parishioners hope the completed program will provide a lasting expression of their faith and heritage for future generations.
