**SAN FRANCISCO —** Restored crosses [have been returned](https://www.synod.com/synod/eng2026/20260908%5Fensf.html) to the domes of the Holy Virgin Cathedral “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in San Francisco following a month-long restoration project.

The crosses were reinstalled on September 4, after being removed on July 24 to undergo restoration, according to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR).

The work is part of a broader project to preserve and beautify the cathedral ahead of its centennial celebration in 2027\. The historic cathedral is closely associated with St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, whose relics are housed there.

An online [fundraising campaign](https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/restore-the-glory-of-the-home-where-st-johns-relics-rest) has been established to help cover the costs of restoring the crosses and other preservation work. Supporters are invited to contribute to the ongoing effort to maintain the cathedral.

The campaign describes the Holy Virgin Cathedral as a continuing spiritual presence in San Francisco and calls on the faithful to “unite in faith and action” so that the cathedral may remain a “beacon of light, love, and divine grace” in the years ahead.

Previously, the [UOJ reported](https://uoj.news/news/holy-virgin-cathedral-launches-campaign-to-restore-five-crosses/) that Holy Virgin Cathedral launched a campaign to restore five crosses.
