**WILLINGDON, CANADA —** The Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada has announced the [upcoming consecration](https://basilica.ro/en/boian-parish-canada-consecration-rebuilt-church/?fbclid=IwdGRleATUURBwZG9mBWZkaWQWULWf4qbLScRFTAPIuJHadMbkBkt-xGV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkCjY2Mjg1NjgzNzkAAR6IOiFzkgRvstDwhZYgr%5FChoZXHbKIw%5FedrgqcykYhiteRpmEBS4uqaXohSQA%5Faem%5FgoJvN%5FVWOF4E04RaJ19-hg) of a newly rebuilt church for Boian Parish in Alberta, one of the oldest Romanian Orthodox communities in North America.

The consecration will take place on Aug. 15, coinciding with the parish's patronal feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The celebration will begin the previous evening with Vespers and the Lamentations Service of the Mother of God, followed by the consecration of the new church and Divine Liturgy on Saturday morning.

Founded 128 years ago by Romanian immigrants from the Bukovinian village of Boian, the parish has preserved the Orthodox faith and Romanian heritage of generations of faithful in Canada. The original church, built in 1905, was destroyed by fire in 2023, prompting the community to undertake a rebuilding effort.

The new temple was constructed with several improvements, including a larger floor area, energy-efficient heating, and enhanced accessibility. The rebuilt church is approximately 50% larger than the previous structure while maintaining the parish's historic identity and role as a spiritual home for Romanian Orthodox Christians.
