Relics of St. Philotimia Exhumed at Râmeț Monastery
The exhumation of St. Philotimia’s relics brings her enduring faith, humility, and maternal holiness to the Orthodox faithful at Râmeț Monastery.
RĂMEȚ, ROMANIA — The relics of St. Philotimia of Râmeț were solemnly exhumed Thursday at Râmeț Monastery, creating a significant spiritual moment for the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church as a whole. The ceremony was conducted following the Divine Liturgy under the supervision of medical and anthropological specialists, in accordance with Holy Synod guidelines.
Abp. Irineu of Alba Iulia called the event a “new spiritual jewel” for the monastery, noting that the relics will now be venerated alongside those of St. Dometie the Merciful, canonized in 2024, and St. Hierarch Ghelasie. The Archbishop emphasized that St. Philotimia’s life exemplifies perseverance, kindness, and acceptance of suffering as a path to holiness.
Following the exhumation, the relics were processed to the monastery church, where they will remain permanently for veneration. Fr. Oliviu Botoi described the occasion as a day of great joy, highlighting the saint’s quiet devotion and enduring spiritual legacy.
