Serbian Royal Couple to Make Historic Visit to Chicago Cathedral
A royal visit to Chicago will spotlight Serbian faith, heritage, and youth education on the eve of Vidovdan.
CHICAGO — The Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago has announced that Their Royal Highnesses Prince Philip and Princess Danica Karađorđević will make an official visit to the cathedral on June 21, 2026, in a gathering being described as a historic occasion for the Serbian Orthodox community in the United States. Church leaders said the visit highlights the enduring ties between the Serbian Royal Family, the Serbian Orthodox Church, and Serbian communities throughout the diaspora.
The day’s events will begin with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m., celebrated by Metr. Longin together with cathedral clergy. Following the service, attendees will gather for a banquet and a traditional Vidovdan program. Because the royal visit falls on the eve of Vidovdan, one of the most significant observances in Serbian history and culture, organizers plan to focus on themes of faith, heritage, historical memory, and the preservation of Serbian identity among younger generations.
A major emphasis of the visit will be support for youth education and cultural initiatives. The royal couple is promoting the “Serbian Camp” project, scheduled to launch in 2027, which aims to bring together children from the diaspora, Serbia, Republika Srpska, Montenegro, and Croatia for fellowship, education, and cultural exchange. During their stay, Prince Philip and Princess Danica will also visit the cathedral’s Summer Day Camp and St. Sava Academy, a Serbian Orthodox parochial school serving more than 200 students and emphasizing both academic excellence and Serbian cultural education.
Cathedral leaders have invited parishioners, members of the Serbian community, and the wider public to participate in the festivities and welcome the royal guests during a celebration of unity, tradition, and faith.
