Youth Pilgrimage to Serbia Announced for August 2026
A 10-day youth pilgrimage to Serbia will explore historic monasteries and Orthodox spiritual heritage.
LONDON, UK — With the blessing of Bp. Irenei of London and Western Europe, a diocesan youth pilgrimage to Fruska Gora and northern Serbia will take place from August 22–31, 2026, offering participants a 10-day journey through historic Orthodox monasteries, sacred sites, and the spiritual heritage of the region.
Organized under the St. Mary Magdalene Youth Group of the London Cathedral and led by Hieromonk Theodore, the pilgrimage follows a similar successful youth journey from the previous year. Participants will visit Fruska Gora—often called the “Mount Athos of Serbia” for its concentration of monasteries—as well as Belgrade and several monastic communities associated with Sts. Nikolaj Velimirovic and Justin Popovic. Clergy accompanying the group will provide spiritual talks, confession, and pastoral guidance throughout the trip.
Registration is now open and will close on June 20, 2026, though organizers warn that spaces may fill earlier. The cost is $1,200 excluding airfare, covering lodging and meals, with participants responsible for arranging their own flights. Each pilgrim must also receive written blessing from their parish priest before acceptance into the program, with additional logistical guidance provided after registration.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a museum honoring St. Nikolai (Velimirović) was under construction in Serbia.
