Efforts are underway in Lelić to build a museum honoring the life and legacy of St. Nikolai Velimirović, with the Church calling on the faithful to help complete the project.

LELIĆ, SERBIA — The St. Nicholas Monastery in Lelić, the birthplace and final resting place of St. Nikolai Velimirović, is constructing a museum and memorial house dedicated to the renowned Serbian saint. The Serbian Orthodox Church has issued a public appeal for donations to help complete the project honoring the life and legacy of the revered bishop and theologian.

The foundation of the museum was consecrated in September 2023 by Bp. Isihije of Valjevo. During the ceremony, he reflected on St. Nikolai’s legacy of spiritual and charitable work in his native village, noting that the monastery community seeks to continue the saint’s mission despite the challenges involved.

St. Nikolai holds a special place among Orthodox Christians in America. He reposed at St. Tikhon's Monastery in March 1956, and his relics were transferred to Lelić in 1991. His former cell at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary was recently turned into a shrine where the first Liturgy was celebrated in March 2025.

For more information on how to donate, the monastery may be contacted by email at [email protected], on Facebook, or on Instagram.
