Contact group to decide fate of UOC church in Kolomyia

According to a UOJ source, on June 6, a "round table" was held in Kolomyia, where the issue of the Annunciation Church of the UOC was discussed: Greek Catholics insist that the church should belong to them, because "it is built by their ancestors".

Local authorities announced the establishment of a contact group, which will include representatives of all Christian denominations of Kolomyia. The contact group will have to decide: who exactly will serve in the church in the future.

On June 4, the Uniates attempted to seize the Annunciation Church. The parishioners of the UOC held a prayerful standing at the walls of their church on June 5 and 6.

The Annunciation Church was transferred to the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for use in 1991. It is a monument of architecture: it was built in 1587 – 9 years before the Brest Union, from which the Greek Catholics originate.

The first meeting of the contact group is scheduled for June 7.

The UOJ is closely following developments.
