UGCC complains to SBU about its temple “seized by schismatics”
"The Church of the Holy Spirit in the town of Gorodok deanery of the Stryi diocese was unlawfully seized by a group of persons who imitate performance of Greek Catholic services," the statement reads. ”Illegal actions are headed by former priest Feodosy Ivashkov, who belongs to the "Dognal group", and with his members self-proclaimed himself bishop, for which by the verdict of the church court on October 9, 2014 he was deprived of the priestly rank. The activities of the "Dognal group" are officially banned in Ukraine as the activities of a destructive totalitarian sect."
The statement of the UGCC is addressed to the leadership of the Ministry of Culture and the Security Service: "Considering the real danger of the activities of the Dognal sect and his followers, aimed at inciting religious discord, we appeal to the relevant state structures to take measures to correct the situation, according to the current legislation of Ukraine."
Archpriest Alexander Bakhov, head of the Law Department of the UOC, drew attention to the fact that the Uniates themselves consider it quite legitimate to seize temples of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
"Or maybe the religious community has changed its subordination!” Archpriest Alexander Bakhov writes on his Facebook page. “By the way, now you understand that if bill No 4128 (on church raiding) is adopted, there will be many such cases, and "transitions" will not only affect the UOC."
