On April 20, 2023, at around 7:00 am, the authorities announced that the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra had been mined. The UOJ became aware of this from its sources.

The territory was cordoned off. A ribbon was hung at the entrance to the Lower Lavra, a fire engine and explosives arrived. Parishioners who came to the services were not allowed into the Lavra. The security forces proceeded to the monastery and stayed there for about an hour and a half. At around 8:30 the entrance to the monastery was resumed.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the police opened a case against Lavra defenders under the article "hooliganism".
