On October 9, 2020, the spokesman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, commented on the idea of the Ukrainian authorities about the "weekend quarantine" on his telegram channel.
The priest suggested that "apart from shops, shopping malls and other things, (the authorities) want to again prohibit people from going to temples."
However, according to him, “it is now obvious that most of the sick people do not get infected in churches, where an average of 3% of the population actually go (if it is not even less due to the covid), once a week, if that, but in other places they visit much more often."
Archpriest Nicholas notes that "measures, of course, must be taken", "but adequate and effective".
Because “when in the spring there were 200 sick people a day throughout the country, the Church was to blame, but now when there are 5 thousand sick people every day, everyone is working and everything is working and it keeps going somehow ... or should the Church be at fault again?” the priest asked.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich, the OCU cannot seize churches due to COVID-19.
