Nearly 2,000 Pilgrims Participate in Procession to Pochaiv Lavra
POCHAEV — Orthodox Christians from across Ukraine converge at the Pochaiv Lavra to celebrate the feast day of the Pochaiv Icon of the Mother of God. On August 3, 2025, pilgrims from the Volyn region arrived at the monastery. According to the MIR YouTube channel, 1,800 participants joined the prayer procession.
The pilgrims expressed joy in their shared journey: “We walked openly, prayed together, and were amazed that 1,800 of us came together.”
Mykhailo from the Kovel district shared that the procession teaches participants to love their neighbor and express devotion to God. “You know you’re walking to honor God and commemorate the Pochaiv Monastery’s salvation from the Tatar army. We come to experience the grace that fills us in this sacred place,” he said.
The cross walkers prayed for peace in Ukraine, their families, and the enduring presence of the Pochaiv Monastery. Many are long-time participants and encourage newcomers to join. “Have patience—it’s a significant undertaking. Reflect on your purpose and feel the love awaiting you at the Lavra. Try it once, and the Holy Theotokos will guide you to continue,” they said, noting that some who initially came to see them off ended up joining the pilgrimage.
The UOJ reported that the feast day was also celebrated at the Holy Spirit Skete in honor of St. Seraphim.
A video of the event has been made available on YouTube.
