Met. Tikhon to Concelebrate with Primate of Macedonian Orthodox Church

WASHINGTON, DC — In a landmark event for global Orthodoxy, Met. Tikhon of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) will concelebrate a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with His Beatitude Abp. Stefan of the Macedonian Orthodox Church–Ohrid Archbishopric on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. 

The service is set to take place at 9:00 AM at St. Nicholas Cathedral, 3500 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC. It will mark the OCA’s formal recognition of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, the world’s newest autocephalous Orthodox Church.

The concelebration follows Met. Tikhon’s initial acknowledgment of the Macedonian Orthodox Church during the 21st All-American Council, held July 14-18, 2025, in Phoenix, AZ. Preparations have been underway since, with additional OCA hierarchs and clergy expected to join the historic service. The Archdiocesan Choir of Washington, DC, will provide liturgical responses.

Adding to the significance of the event, the Hawaiian Myrrh-Streaming Iveron Icon of the Mother of God and the holy relics of the newly canonized Righteous Olga of Kwethluk will be present for veneration by the faithful.

This service underscores a pivotal moment in Orthodox Christian unity, as the OCA officially embraces the Macedonian Orthodox Church’s autocephalous status, strengthening ties within the global Orthodox community.
