JERUSALEM — On February 6, 2026, Patr. Theophilos III of Jerusalem met with general consuls and diplomats at the Patriarchate residence, urging international representatives to defend the rights of Christians in the Holy Land, according to the Jerusalem Patriarchate website.
In his address, the Patriarch highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis in the region, particularly in the Gaza Strip, where civilians continue to suffer. He praised Christian communities for their steadfast service amid destruction and called on diplomats to support initiatives for reconstruction and relief, emphasizing that the Church cannot ignore human suffering: “What we do for the least of these, we do for Christ Himself.”
Patr. Theophilos also expressed concern over rising attacks by settlers on Christian villages in the West Bank and restrictions on worship in Jerusalem, especially during the Holy Fire and Holy Week. He called for medical aid for children from Gaza with cancer and urged free access for educators and medical workers, reiterating that the Church’s mission is to heal bodies, nurture souls, and protect the dignity given to every person.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Theophilos hailed the ceasefire as hope for a lasting peace in the Holy Land.
