Romanian Orthodox Parish Launches Fundraiser After Fire

MONTRÉAL, CANADA — A devastating fire has destroyed the worship space of the Romanian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas just as the faithful enter Holy and Great Lent, leaving the parish without a place to gather for prayer.
According to a statement issued by Fr. Andrei Cretu and the parish council, the blaze consumed everything used for the community’s liturgical life, including Holy Vessels, vestments, service books, icons, and sacred objects. No one was injured. The building was not owned by the parish, and leaders clarified that fundraising efforts are not intended to rebuild the structure, but to relocate and restore parish life.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover rental costs for a new worship space, relocation expenses, and the replacement of essential liturgical items. Parish leaders emphasized that while the community has lost its physical space, “faith remains” as they seek to resume services as soon as possible.
Previously, the UOJ reported that arson destroyed a historic Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada.
