Report: 742 Religious Sites Damaged in Ukraine Since 2022

KYIV — Updated statistics released in February 2026 show that at least 742 religious and spiritual sites were damaged or destroyed in Ukraine between February 24, 2022, and February 24, 2026. The figures were published by the Academic Religious Studies Workshop, which noted that the totals likely represent only minimum confirmed losses due to limited access to frontline and temporarily occupied territories.

According to the report, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) — incorrectly identified as being under the Moscow Patriarchate — sustained the greatest losses, with 395 churches damaged by shelling since the beginning of the full-scale war. Protestant communities reported 194 houses of worship damaged or destroyed, while 75 churches of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) were also affected.

Additional losses included 31 Greek and Roman Catholic buildings, seven mosques, 22 synagogues, 18 structures belonging to other religious communities, and 11 religious educational institutions. The data underscores the widespread impact of the war on Ukraine’s religious infrastructure across multiple faith traditions.
