ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT — Amid escalating tensions and uncertainty across the Middle East, the head of the Alexandrian Orthodox Church reached out to fellow patriarchs to express solidarity and prayer for peace in the troubled region.
On March 9, His Beatitude Patr. Theodore II of Alexandria held a telephone conversation with Patr. John X of Antioch and Patr. Theophilos III of Jerusalem. During the call, the Alexandrian primate conveyed the heartfelt support of the Church of the Apostle Mark and emphasized the fraternal unity among the historic patriarchates of the Middle East.
The patriarch noted that the bonds between the Churches are not merely institutional but deeply personal. He recalled his long-standing friendship with Patr. John X, which began during their studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He also spoke of his reverence for the Jerusalem Patriarchate, influenced by the legacy of Patr. Benedict of Jerusalem.
The Patriarchate of Alexandria affirmed that it continues to pray for wisdom among leaders and for peace and reconciliation throughout the region.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. John X issued a Great Lent message for 2026.
