SUCEAVA, ROMANIA — The Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuți distributed approximately 500 icons of the Mother of God to mothers and medical staff in hospitals across Suceava County on March 8, marking International Women’s Day with a gesture of gratitude and spiritual encouragement.
The initiative was organized through the Pro-Life Department as part of the “Month for Life” program promoted by the Romanian Orthodox Church. Hospital chaplains visited obstetrics-gynecology and neonatology wards, presenting the icons to new mothers and healthcare workers while offering prayers and words of blessing.
According to the diocese, recipients welcomed the gifts with emotion and appreciation. The icon of the Mother of God was presented as a symbol of protection, hope, and spiritual strength, encouraging mothers to entrust their children to the care of the Theotokos while recognizing the dedication of medical professionals who serve life and health daily.
Previously, the UOJ reported that stolen icons were returned to an Albanian Orthodox church after 14 years.
