CHICAGO, IL — More than 1,100 catechumens across the Midwest are preparing to enter the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) this year, marking a remarkable moment of growth for the Diocese of the Midwest as Great Lent unfolds.

According to diocesan officials, just over 1,100 men and women are currently undergoing catechesis and spiritual preparation in parishes throughout the region. These catechumens are being guided by parish priests, deacons, and lay catechists as they prepare to receive the Holy Mysteries of Baptism, Chrismation, and Communion.

Priest Esteban Vazquez, Vice Chancellor of the diocese, emphasized that Lent has historically been the most important period of preparation for those entering the Church. Through intensified prayer, fasting, study, and participation in Lenten services, catechumens deepen their commitment to Christ while becoming integrated into parish life.

Clergy and faithful throughout the diocese have been encouraged to pray for the catechumens as they complete their journey toward full communion in the Church.

Previously, the UOJ reported that a Bozeman parish celebrated 10 baptisms and welcomed 15 new catechumens.
