CHICAGO — Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral gathered April 26 for a fundraising luncheon supporting completion of the St. Mardarije Spiritual & Cultural Center, marking a major milestone in the project’s development and drawing strong participation despite competing events that weekend.
Bp. Serafim presided over the Divine Liturgy and delivered remarks outlining the center’s progress and remaining goals. With the blessing of Metr. Longin, he is overseeing the effort to bring the project to completion, emphasizing its long-term spiritual significance.
Organizers reported that the parish exceeded its $50,000 goal, raising $75,000 through donations, attendance, and community support. The event also featured musical performances and a notable $5,000 contribution from the cathedral choir, underscoring broad backing for the initiative’s final phase.
Previously, the UOJ reported that St. Sava Monastery was to be renewed as a spiritual and cultural hub.
