BROOKLINE, MA — The Scriptorium Initiative at Hellenic College Holy Cross has announced a new online course titled “Marriage in the Orthodox Church,” offering structured theological instruction on the sacrament of marriage for participants at all levels.
The eight-hour course, taught by Philip Mamalakis, Ph.D., will run from May 4 to May 29, 2026, and draws on Ephesians 5:32 to present marriage as a sacred mystery and an image of Christ and His Church. The program explores how Orthodox theology frames marriage as both vocation and sacrament in daily life.
Course modules include “Marriage as Icon and Journey,” “The Sacrament of Married Life,” “The Sacrament of Speaking and Listening,” and “Special Topics and Applications,” each paired with weekly live Zoom Q&A sessions. Instruction combines four prerecorded lectures with interactive discussions held on Wednesdays from 7–8 p.m. ET.
The course costs $150 and requires reliable internet access. It is designed to deepen understanding of marriage within the Orthodox theological tradition.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Saba taught that marriage is a path to paradise.
