NEW YORK — His Eminence Abp. Elpidophoros of America has announced the appointment of Archdeacon Dionysios Papiris as Director of the Office of the Archbishop, effective June 1, 2026, marking a key administrative transition within the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. This was first reported by the Orthodox Observer.

Archdeacon Dionysios, who currently serves as Archdeacon of the Archdiocese, will continue in that role while assuming his new responsibilities. He succeeds the Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Fr. Panagiotis Papazafiropoulos, who has served as Director of the Office since June 2023 and is now moving to a new position with Leadership 100.

In announcing the appointment, Abp. Elpidophoros praised Papiris’ service and pastoral leadership, stating he has demonstrated “exceptional pastoral sensitivity, administrative ability, and unwavering commitment to the mission of our Sacred Archdiocese.” He added that Papiris has long served with “zeal, humility, and spirit of ecclesiastical order.”

Papiris, a New York native and graduate of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, has served in multiple leadership and youth ministry roles across the Archdiocese since 2020.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. Elpidophoros of America welcomed NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani for his first official visit.
