Abp. Elpidophoros Leads Pilgrimage to Constantinople

ISTANBUL — A group of senior seminarians from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during a pilgrimage to the historic center of world Orthodoxy, accompanied by Abp. Elpidophoros.

The visit took place on the final day of the Paschal season and combined worship, education, and personal interaction with the leadership of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Earlier in the day, the students attended the Divine Liturgy celebrated by Patr. Bartholomew at a small parish church in the city. The service offered the future clergy an opportunity to experience firsthand how Orthodox worship remains at the heart of church life regardless of a parish’s size or prominence.

Later, at the Patriarchal headquarters in the Phanar, Bartholomew welcomed the delegation and spoke about the importance of theological formation. He also recognized Abp. Elpidophoros’ ongoing efforts on behalf of Orthodox education in the United States and his support for the institutions that prepare future church leaders. Student representatives addressed the Patriarch and presented a commemorative gift on behalf of their classmates.

The trip is part of a broader educational program that will take the seminarians beyond Constantinople to Mt.  Athos and northern Greece. Organizers say the journey is intended to connect classroom learning with direct exposure to the people, places, language, and traditions that have shaped Orthodox Christianity for centuries.
