PARMA, OH — The Orthodox Church in America’s (OCA) Diaconal Vocations Program has announced a second Diaconal Liturgical Practicum for 2026, offering intensive training for deacons and men preparing for the diaconate.

Scheduled for Aug. 25–28 at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, the program is being held with the blessing of the Holy Synod of Bishops and at the invitation of Abp. Daniel. Organizers said the annual practicum will provide hands-on instruction in serving the Divine Liturgy and other services, along with training in chanting, vocal technique, and communicating the Orthodox faith.

The event marks the 20th year of the practicum, which is overseen by the OCA’s Diaconal Vocations Program and supported by the Board of Theological Education. Faculty members include Archpriest Kirill Sokolov, director of Diaconal and Late Vocations, Archpriest Gregory Ealy, and Subdcn. Dimitri Pletz.

Participants will take part in liturgical workshops focused on ceremonial movement, concelebrations, and hierarchical services while exploring the broader vocation of the deacon within the life of the Church. The program is strongly recommended by the Holy Synod for those enrolled in diaconal formation programs, and attendance at two practicums is required for candidates seeking ordination as deacons in the OCA. The gathering is intended for both experienced deacons and those just beginning their vocational formation, emphasizing fellowship, practical training, and spiritual growth.

Registration for the practicum can be found here. The Ohio practicum was announced as a second session of the program, providing an additional opportunity for participants who are unable to attend the previously scheduled gathering in Santa Rosa, California. Registrants for the California practicum may transfer to the Ohio session by requesting a refund and submitting a new registration.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Archdeacon Dionysios Papiris was named director of the Archbishop’s Office.
