DALLAS, TX — A newly released book from Pokrov Publications aims to introduce readers to the life, teachings, and miracles of one of the most beloved Orthodox saints of the modern era, St. Gabriel of Georgia.

Titled "Hidden in Humility: St. Gabriel (Urgebadze): Fool-for-Christ and Confessor of Georgia," the 224-page illustrated volume explores the saint’s spiritual journey, ascetic struggles, and enduring influence throughout the Orthodox world. The publication also includes more than 30 firsthand accounts from individuals who encountered St. Gabriel during his lifetime, as well as over 20 stories of healings and other miracles attributed to his intercessions.

Although he reposed in 1995, St. Gabriel’s popularity has continued to grow widely. Canonized only 17 years after his death, he has become one of the most widely venerated contemporary Orthodox saints. Known for embracing the difficult path of a Fool-for-Christ, he concealed his spiritual gifts beneath acts of humility and unconventional behavior while remaining steadfast in his confession of the faith during the Soviet era.

Among the best-known events of his life was his public destruction of a large portrait of Lenin displayed on a Georgian government building, an act that led to severe persecution by communist authorities. His life also included years of ascetic labor, preservation of sacred church items, service in neglected churches, and a ministry that inspired countless people to embrace Christ. The new volume seeks to preserve that legacy for a new generation of readers.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. Ephrem had consecrated the St. Gabriel Fool-for-Christ Church in a Georgian village.
