CLEVELAND, OH — The Saint Anastasia Fellowship (SAF) and FOCUS North America have launched a new initiative aimed at supporting individuals and families affected by substance use and behavioral addictions through prayer and sacramental ministry.

The partnership introduces a recurring Paraklesis service combined with the Sacrament of Holy Unction at the Chapel of St. Herman at FOCUS Cleveland. Dedicated to St. Anastasia the Deliverer from Potions (Pharmakolytria), the services are intended to offer spiritual healing and encouragement to those struggling with addiction, as well as their loved ones. Organizers say the effort responds to the continuing impact of the opioid crisis in Northeast Ohio and the need for a holistic approach to recovery.

During the services, names of loved ones will be read aloud in prayer, and participants will receive the anointing of Holy Unction for the healing of soul and body. Fr. Anastasios, who will lead the services, emphasized the importance of prayer in the recovery process, saying, “Healing is difficult; we can only start with prayer.”

Leaders described the program as the first phase of a broader collaboration. Future plans may include peer-based recovery groups to complement the spiritual support already being offered. FOCUS Cleveland Director Kirk Ries noted that many residents are already in active recovery and said the partnership brings “hope and healing” to those facing addiction. The services will be open to residents, families, and community members regardless of religious background.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the Romanian Patriarchate warned of a gambling addiction crisis.
