The UOC publishes a unique edition of the almanac "Athos heritage"
The edition is unique as on its pages reputable scientists from different countries are trying to carefully consider the history of relations between Kievan Rus and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe with a world center of Orthodox monasticism and mysticism of Mount Athos.
According to the chief editor of the almanac, Director of the International Institute of Mount Athos heritage in Ukraine Sergey Shumilo, the publication is aimed at systematic and wide coverage of history, spiritual and cultural heritage of Mount Athos in the development of the Slavic countries and Kievan Rus.
The new edition of the scientific almanac "Athos heritage" was published within the framework of publishing projects of the International Institute of Mount Athos heritage in Ukraine (IIAS), with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphriy of Kiev and All Ukraine.
The almanac opens with greetings by Schema-Archimandrite Jeremiah (Alekhin), hegumen of the Russian Monastery of St Panteleimon on Mt Athos, who shortly before his death blessed a regular issue of the almanac. In his welcoming words, the 100-year elder- hegumen, in particular, said: "On behalf of the Russian Monastery of St Panteleimon on Mt Athos the Russian Athos, I welcome a release of the regular issue of the almanac "Athos heritage "in the hope that the study and access to the priceless treasure of Mount Athos will help each of us find genuine spiritual guidance. May prayer cover of the Holy Mount abide with all of us!"
The almanac includes more than 30 scientific articles by various authors from Greece, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Serbia, Slovenia, as well as Mount Athos. The publication is designed for scientists, teachers, clergy, students and anyone interested in church history and heritage of Mount Athos.
