UOC Primate celebrates birthday on Holy Mount Athos in fasting, prayer and solitude
On the evening of November 1, Metropolitan Onufriy of Kiev and All Ukraine led All-Night Vigil to celebrate the day of Great Martyr Artemius at St.Panteleimon’s Monastery on the Holy Mount Athos.
On the morning of November 2, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church led the Divine Liturgy in the Monastery to celebrate St. Gerasimos of Athos (Kapsalsky).
The next day, November 3, the Metropolitan Onuphrius prayerfully commemorates Rev. Philotheus of Dionysiou and St. Hilarion the Geogian (Kanchaveli) of Mt Athos who labored in the Russian St. Monastery on Mount Athos.
The Primate of the UOC intends to celebrate his birthday, October 5, on the Holy Mount in fasting, prayer and solitude. Also Metropolitan Onufriy plans to visit a number of other monasteries of Mount Athos, where he will worship to the shrines and pray for the restoration of peace and prosperity in Ukraine.
Metropolitan Onufriy has been coming to the Holy Mount Athos for about 20 consecutive years. Every year he visits the Russian monastery on Mount Athos. Here he traditionally tries to mark his birthday.
As you know, Metropolitan Onufriy is a frequent guest and friend of Russian on Athos St. Panteleimon’s Monastery.
