3 monasteries were born and 200 monks tonsured in the UOC in 2016
According to the information presented by His Eminence, there were established 3 monasteries within the Ukrainian Orthodox Church during 2016: a monastery in honor of John the Baptist, Khust eparchy in Roztoky village, Transcarpathian region; a nunnery in honor of Princess Olga Equal-to-the-Apostles in Kiev eparchy, Tomashovka village of Fastov district, Kiev region; and a nunnery in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin in Rovno eparchy, in Andrusiyev village, Goshcha district, Rovno region.
An overall number of the believers who were tonsured in the past year make up to 200. All in all, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church counts 4318 monks.
Besides, the amount of parishes has also risen. Last year it exceeded the number of 12 thousand parishes. The amount of clerics has also increased respectively – from 11976 to 12034 in comparison with the year of 2015.
The number of UOC eparchies and ruling hierarchs has not changed – 53. The number of vicars has increased from 29 to 33 persons.
