Poroshenko going to grant St. Andrew's Church to Phanar
St. Andrew's Church in Kiev
The Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko proposes to assign St. Andrew's Church in Kiev for the Ecumenical Patriarch's permanent use. He intends to submit a bill on this to the Verkhovna Rada in the near future and asks all parliamentary factions to support it.
“It will be a symbolic gesture of unity with the Mother Church,” the edition “Ukrainska Pravda” (“Ukrainian Truth”) cites the words of the representative of the President to the Verkhovna Rada Irina Lutsenko.
St. Andrew's Church is a Baroque church built on the right bank of the Dnieper River in Kiev based on the Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli's design in 1754. St. Andrew's Church currently serves as the cathedral of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
