On May 9, 2020, during a briefing at the Eternal Flame in the Park of Eternal Glory, the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, spoke about his attitude to the coronavirus and the situation in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The video recording of the interview with His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry was published on the UOJ YouTube channel.
“We are all ill. Each has its own sore. Yes, there are people who had a high temperature, now the temperature has dropped. Another one will be running a temperature tomorrow. That's life. Moreover, now is such a season, the transition from winter to spring. People frequently get ill. But now, whatever happens, is attributed to the coronavirus,” said the Primate. “The ear is sore – the coronavirus, the leg hurts – the coronavirus, the coronavirus is suspected of everything. And it has nothing to do with it. People fall ill, undergo treatment, all thank God."
He also emphasized the importance of seeking timely medical attention.
“Mostly, those people die who, although they’ve got infected with the coronavirus, suffer from another serious illness that’s already existed: diabetes, serious heart diseases, etc. And people can’t stand it. But ordinary people, if they go to doctors on time, are treated, recover, join the ranks, again work and pray. I wish you all good health,” concluded His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.
He also emphasized that no petition can decide the Lavra’ s fate.
